The West Coast

We spent Thursday afternoon driving down the West Coast. This was breathtaking – both the scenery and the roads. The hills of the rainforest angle down right into the coast, which is dotted with detached limestone spires. For much of our drive, we had the jungle just out our left window and the ocean out the right.

One of the big West Coast tourist attractions is the ‘Pancake Rocks’ in Punakaiki. This is more of a get out of the car and snap a picture attraction but definitely worth the stop. There are a series of blowholes around the rocks but it was low tide so they weren’t really all that spectacular.
