Lake Matheson

This lake is said to be one of the most photographed in New Zealand and at dusk on Friday we did our part to keep it on top. It is best to visit at dusk or dawn because the water is calmest and the reflection of the mountain range clearest. The snow-capped peak in the lower photos is Mount Cook, the highest peak in New Zealand. All of these mountains are part of the Southern Alps.

We also met our first fellow Americans of the trip. I guess Americans are suckers for a nice lake/mountain photo!
